The United States Aquarium Association strives to uphold the highest ethical standards in the keeping, care, breeding and sale of fish, corals, invertebrates, and other aquatic life.
USAQUA considers the health, well-being, and safety of fish and aquatic life under human care to be paramount.
USAQUA maintains that biological and environmental integrity to be crucial regarding aquariums.
USAQUA believes it is the personal responsibility of every keeper to educate themselves on the specific requirements of any animal they wish to keep as a prerequisite to ownership.
USAQUA endorses training and mentoring programs through aquarium societies and retailers to ensure the highest standards of proficiency in working with aquatic animals.
USAQUA regards the intentional release of non-native aquatic animals and plants into the wild as highly irresponsible and notes that viable alternatives are always available.
USAQUA is committed to conservation, education, and community outreach. Spreading information about fish, corals, and invertebrates is crucial for more widespread appreciative for fish, corals, and aquatic life and to combat misinformation that threatens the private ownership of these magnificent creatures, as well as their continued survival in the wild.
