Last year, the Arizona Game & Fish Department proposed a rule that would have prohibited import, sale, and possession of a significant number of common aquarium fish, including all species of arowana, glass catfish, pictus catfish, and all other catifish species in the family Pimelodidae. The USAQUA alert on the proposed rule is available here. Written testimony was submitted by Pet Advocacy Network, and USAQUA President and attorney Art Parola testified in person before the commission. The Arizona United Animal Care & Business Coalition also provided testimony and a letter to the Commissioners. The proposed rule was revised, and the Department narrowed the scope of the proposed prohibitions, excluding most common aquarium species from the proposal.
